Local-first by design
Your family's data stays on the box in your home. The cloud is used only for licensing, software updates, remote support (off by default, which you can turn on and revoke), and optional backups encrypted on the box before upload that we can't read.

Does it work if the internet goes down?
Local controls and cameras keep working on your home network.
Can you see our cameras or calendar?
No. Data stays in your home. Remote support is off unless you turn it on, and you can revoke it anytime.
Do we need Overlay?
It's optional. Home Assistant works on its own, and Overlay adds the family layer.
